The high school basketball program took to the road twice this weekend and came away with three wins.
Friday, the teams headed to Phoenix to take on the AZ Collegiate Eagles, a 2A non-conference opponent. The Lady Patriots opened with a hard-fought battle for a last -minute win, 37-36. The middle school basketball squads traveled to Young Scholars Academy in Fort Mohave Wednesday evening and split wins with the charter school. The Lady Patriots opened the evening up with a hard-fought battle, losing to the YSA Saguaros 28-15. The boys followed up, however, with a strong 30-10 win for the Patriots. The high school basketball teams traveled to Surprise, AZ this past Saturday to take on the Imagine Prep Storm. The Lady Patriots dominated the Imagine girls, but couldn’t get shots to drop. Our girls came out pressing and quickly had the Storm frustrated and committing turnovers, with the Patriots getting 17 steals in the game (7 from sophomore Yasmin Bejarano). The middle school basketball season is off to a solid start this year with the girls going 2-1 in the first week of play while the boys are undefeated. The season opened on December 6 against the Fox Creek 7th grade teams. The Lady Patriots routed the Falcons 7th grade girls 36-1. The boys followed up with a 33-18 win.

The Patriots traveled to Glendale on Friday to meet the Glendale Prep Griffins on the basketball court and came away with split results.
The Lady Patriots came out first and quickly got outplayed by the Griffins hard pressing defense. The high school basketball season kicked off last night with a set of home games against The Orme School* from Mayer, AZ. The Lady Patriots kicked off the double header with a 35-31 win after a slow start in the first quarter. This weekend marked the middle of our season with two great games against NFL YET on Saturday afternoon at home and Desert Pointe Academy Friday night in Peoria. The away game on Friday was an exciting win. After trailing throughout the game, Anthony Ortiz hit two free throws to grab the lead, which setup the win on the road. Yesterday, our middle school basketball squads (grades 6-8) traveled several blocks to Bullhead City Junior High to take on their 8th grade teams. Our girls played a tough game against a good 8th grade opponent. Even though they fell short, the team showed a lot of heart. Jenah McIntyre had a block shot and MacKayla Crespo, Reyna Hartman, and Destiny Fidler did a good job rebounding. Hailey showed glimpse of a bright future with at least 3 steals.

The Patriots high school basketball squads traveled to Surprise, AZ last night to take on the Paradise Honors Panthers in their brand new gym. With the re-alignment of the AZCAA 2A league this year, MALC is now in the West Conference with Paradise Honors and a number of other Phoenix area teams and it was the first time the two schools met on the court.
