Great Weekend for HS Volleyball

Published on October 5, 2011

The volleyball team traveled last Friday to Surprise to take on Imagine Academy in double header action.  The Lady Patriots started off strong and took set one easily 25-10.  However lack of communication in sets 2,3 and 4 was the deciding factor in Imagine stealing away the sets 26-24, 25-19, and 25-17.  After a quick pep talk between matches the Lady Patriots were ready to go again and took set one 25-16 from Imagine.  Again lack of communication hurt the Lady Patriots and they lost sets 2 and 3 25-21 and 25-22.  The Patriots bounced back to take the 4th set 25-22 to send it into a 5th set decision, but came up short 15-9.

On Saturday the Lady Patriots started off the day facing Desert Pointe Academy.  The Lady Patriots showed their power, easily winning the match in 3 sets 25-16, 25-6 and 25-13.  The Patriots were strong behind the service line, serving a combined 17 aces and 3 kills from the spike line.

In the second game of action, they took on Telesis.  The Lady Patriots took the 1st set 25-13 with the powerful serving of senior Kaycee Hurt who served 10 points in a row to give the Lady Patriots a commanding lead.
In game two the Patriots fell short 25-23 after having a lead in the set and letting it slip away.  They quickly bounced back taking sets 3 and 4 25-17 and 25-19.

Stats from the Telesis game 23 aces and 5 kills.

Ending the day the Lady Patriots played Skyline Academy in a double header.  The Patriots easily walked about with victories taking the first sets 25-12, 25-16 and 25-14.  The Patriots were led by Becca Bastyr who scored 8 aces from behind the line.  As a team they had 21 aces and 2 kills.

During the 2nd match against  Skyline West the Lady Patriots were on fire and took all three sets easily 25-20, 25-14, and 25-13.  During the 3rd set Kaycee Hurt served 11 points in a row, which 6 of the points were aces, for the Patriots to take a commanding lead over Skyline.  As a team they served 23 aces with 3 kills.
