National Honor Society Induction
For the first time in our school's history, Mohave Accelerated high school students were inducted into the National Honor Society on Wednesday, February 10 in an evening ceremony at the Riviera Recreation Center. The school formed a new charter of the Society under the direction of Michelle Halsey, 4/5 teacher at Mohave Accelerated Elementary School, and Christine Seabury, math teacher at MALC. The keynote speaker at the event was Shawn Bristle, Dean of the Mohave Community College Bullhead City Campus, who praised the students for their achievement and spoke about their future.
The National Honor Society recognizes outstanding high school students who have demonstrated excellence in Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Each of these characteristics was represented in the induction ceremony by a teacher from the school who spoke to the students. Brett Sanders, Michael Griffin, Dennis Crane, and Sandra Brown all took part in the presentation. Principal Casey Mulligan and Superintendent Dr. Vickie Christensen also spoke to the honored students and their parents. Assistant Principal Jeremy Klingensmith, and Academic Counselor Valorie Merrigan presented the awards.
Each student who was inducted spoke briefly to the audience about their plans for the future before lighting a candle, signing the registry, and receiving their certificate of membership. The honored students included:
