MALC Basketball Players in All-Stars

The AZ Charter Athletics Association All-Star Showcase took place this past Saturday (March 6) at the Tri-City Academy in Chandler. The Showcase is an opportunity for league teams to highlight their strongest players and featured four teams in our Division B representing the different region of the league.

Coach Joey Leslie had the honor of coaching the Northeast region Division B team, assisted by our athletic director Jeremy Klingensmith, and brought along two players, Matt Powers and Bryan Reynal, to participate. Reynal led his team with 23 points, but it wasn't enough to take on the stronger Northwest region team who defeated them 68-50.

The Lady Patriots were represented by Alexus Earl and Tobie Jenkins on the Southwest region team. The team started their day against the Central region team and defeated them 47-40, led by our own 8th grader, Tobie Jenkins with 16 points and 10 rebounds. With the win, the girls advanced the to Division B Championship game against the East region team. The team's coach was unable to stay for the second game so our own girls basketball coach, Mike Kern, stepped in, assisted by Klingensmith. Sarah Reyes of Glendale Prep scored 19 points to help her team to a hard fought 45-43 victory. The win was secured by a mid-range jumper from Jenkins at 18 seconds to break the tie.

Make sure to congratulate our players for the All-Star selection and the girls on their victory. The coaches would like to thank our athletic director Jeremy Klingensmith for traveling with the group and assisting from the bench.
